The Aadhaar ID and biometric data of the visitors will be verified with the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) server to check whether the visitor’s identity is genuine. The TPD had recently requested support from the UIDAI for this initiative.

“We want to ensure the background of visitors,” said A. Narasimha, IG Prisons, Telangana. “There may be attempts by terrorists or anti-social elements to meet people in jail for criminal activities. They could show documents of false identity, too. But with the introduction of the Aadhaar verification in prisons, there is no room for cheating. In addition, also would know more details about visitors who may come across as suspicious. If the visitor is from another state, it is also easy to ask if they have any criminal history there. ”

Mr. Narasimha said the new system would be implemented in a couple of months. “First, we will implement it in all central prisons and then extend to district prisons.”

The UIDAI, which usually share a dataset at once pictures and basic details of the owners of Aadhaar cards for government projects, it will not in this case.

In this case, it will be an exchange of case-by-case in which a system is installed in prisons. Whenever a verification request is sent through the system, the central server UIDAI respond within seconds with the results. Currently, the UIDAI is collaborating and sharing data with various free Aadhaar state governments until March 2016.
