US Open Grand Prix: Shuttlers HS Prannoy and Parupalli Kashyap

sprtsAnaheim: Indian riders Parupalli Kashyap and HS Prannoy will aim to book their place in the final of the US Open Golden Grand Prix when they face their respective opponents in the clash of the last four men in Anaheim on Saturday.

On Friday, second seed Prannoy bounced hard from a set down to record a 10-21, 21-15, 21-18 win over Japan’s eighth seed Kanta Tuneyama in an exciting quarter-final clash that lasted Exactly one hour.

Kashyap, on the other hand, entered the semi-finals after a relatively easier win over his compatriot and fifth seed Sameer Verma, with the first winning 21-13, 21-16 in 40 minutes.

Former world No. 6 Kashyap, who was returning to the badminton court after losing his injuries, had recorded his second victory over Verma in so many meetings.

While Prannoy will now close the horns with the 15th Tien Minh Nguyen of Vietanam, Kashyap will take Korea’s Kwang Hee HEO for a place in the summit showdown.

Meanwhile, the third seeds Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy before had come to the last four years after eliminating the main seeds Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han Chinese Taipei in the male doubles event.

The Indian pair will now face a tough challenge when they will face the main seed Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han Chinese Taipei later on Saturday.
