Telangana: Girl used burkha to steal

burkhaHyderabad: A graduate student used a burkha to cover himself while he was stealing gold and silver ornaments, cash and other valuables from passengers on RTC buses. P. Archana, a distance education student at Osmania University, used to travel on city buses at rush hour, wearing burqa and stealing valuables from women. West Zone police arrested Archana and recovered the lakh of Rs 2 that was worth gold from her.

“She is a psychology graduate and was pursuing PG in OU psychology in distance mode. She used to get on RTC city buses from Kukatpally to ESI, ESI to Maitrivanam and Maitrivanam to Panjagutta during rush hour to point to “She would steal wallets, valuables, and expensive jewelry and get off the bus quickly,” she said. Archana is a native of the district of Medak and was previously housed in the Vivekananda colony, Kukatpally, from where he moved to Narsapur. “Her father is a schoolteacher in Narsapur. She has committed crimes for the past six months,” said the DCP. SR Nagar police had received three complaints from their victims, who had lost valuables during bus rides.

One of the victims had lost 36 grams of gold ornaments, while another woman had lost a gold chain of 11 grams. Both victims believed they had been ransacked by a woman. But, Archana was not easy to identify because he wore a burka. The police caught her by following her during one of her acts. Police filed a case against her and sent her to remand custody. Officials said that during her confession, she had said she wanted the money to maintain a luxurious lifestyle and satisfy the expensive desires, police said.
