Post Anil Kumble Out, Phil Simmons Applies To Coach Virat Kohli-led India

anilMumbai: The race for the position of coach of Team India has warmed once again, with a new entrant in the fight.

According to the Mirror of Mumbai, Phil Simmons, former coach of his home country West Indies has applied for the position of coach of India, as the list of contenders just keeps growing.

Former India coach Anil Kumble had resigned last month due to a breakup with captain Virat Kohli, and the post has been vacant ever since.

During his time as West Indies coach Phil Simmons enjoyed a successful T20 World Championship in India last year as West Indies triumphed over England in an exciting T20 World Cup final in Calcutta.

Previously, the Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) had confirmed the extension of the deadline to apply for the position.

“The Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) has extended the deadline for submitting applications to the ‘Head Coach’ position for the India cricket men’s team.

Candidates who have applied before do not need to reapply and will be included in the final list of applicants. The last date for the submission of applications therefore extends until July 9, 2017, “said a statement issued by the BCCI.

Other contenders for the post include Virender Sehwag, Rajput Lalchand, Dodda Ganesh, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus and Ravi Shastri.

The interview for the coaching job will be held in Mumbai on July 10.
