Phone-tapping by Telangana Govt: Hyderabad HC seeks detailed call log

Hyderabad: directs the High Court Hyderabad today the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) in Vijayawada Court to dispatch Secretary sealed cover containing detailed calls given by four telecom operators in connection with the alleged wiretapping by government registration Telangana. The HC asked the Court CMM to immediately send the document to the Registrar (Judicial) of the Supreme Court through a private courier.

Vilas Afzulpurkar Justice approved the order on two petitions filed by the Telangana government in the HC seeking a stay on all proceedings in the case of wiretapping in the Court of CMM and to cancel the order of Vijayawada Metropolitan Court which had led to the telecommunications service providers to give details of the data calls to certain phone numbers Andhra Pradesh CID and SIT. The CMM court had on July 7 and July 17 directed telecommunications service providers to submit data calls from certain original numbers and letters written to them by the competent authorities in the Telangana government in this regard. After the Vijayawada Court asked telecommunications companies Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications and BSNL government to provide details of call data to AP CID telephones, telecommunications companies moved the Supreme Court against the judgment. The SC, in turn, recently spoke to produce call data records to Vijayawada Court in a sealed cover. The alleged vote fraud money had grabbed center stage after the emergence of an audio tape of an alleged conversation between Naidu and nominated Elvys Stephenenson Telangana MLA.

The tape was broadcast by some television channels. The alleged conversation suggested Naidu provide “guarantees of any kind” to the MLA if he voted for the candidate surveys TDP Telangana Legislative Council held in June.
