Indian- Origin Politician Jagmeet Singh Is Kingmaker In Canada General Elections

The bureaucratic Liberal Party won the majority of seats in the Canadian parliament elections and failed to meet the mark needed to form a government. However, in this thrilling election, the New Democratic Party (NDP) led by Indian-born Jagmeet Singh (NDP) has become the kingmaker. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party won 157 of the 338 seats in the House of Commons. The main opposition Conservative Party won 121 seats, the Black Quebecois Party 32, the NDP 24 and the Green Party 3 seats.

The general majority for the formation of the government is 170 while the ruling party stands at 157. The re-empowerment requires the support of a further 13 members. Black Quebecois, who won more seats than the NDP, is not interested in supporting Trudeau. With this, Jagmeet Singh has become the key. The Green Party has announced that it will remain in the opposition. Against this backdrop, the role of the NDP led by Jagmeet, who won 24 seats, became crucial. Jagmeet Singh was also willing to support Trudo.

Speaking about this, Jagmeet Singh said that Prime Minister Trudeau is now in the minority and wants to respect the fact that we have to work together. The NDP, which won 44 seats in the last election, is now tied with 24. Nevertheless, King became the maker. Singh said his members’ main goal was to suggest ways to address many issues, including climate change and urgent measures to improve the living standards of Canadian citizens.

Singh said the people of Canada want the government to work for them. While the Punjabi people are eagerly awaiting the results of the Canadian election, Trudeau is giving four Sikhs a chance in his cabinet. Harijit Singh Sahan, Nawdeep Baines and Jagadish Chaggar, who were ministers in the Trudeau government, retained their positions while Amarjit Singh Sohi lost. He lost to the popular Sikh leader and Conservative Party candidate Tim Uppal.
