Karimnagar: A 13-year-old Dalit girl was reportedly raped by a tractor driver near Karimnagar in Telangana, police said Monday.
The 23-year-old accused, who is known to the girl, took the Class VIII student from his school in Kothapalli village on Saturday to a fort on the outskirts of the city of Karimnagar where he allegedly raped her, sub-inspector A Naresh Reddy said.
The defendant then left the girl at his school, he said, adding that the survivor belongs to a scheduled caste.
Later, the girl came home and informed her parents about the incident which then approached the police.
Subsequently, police searched Sunday a case against the man under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code, for rape, he said.
The offense attracts maximum term punishment.
It was also registered under the relevant provisions of the Child Sexual Offenses Protection Act (POCSO) and the SC / ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Reddy said.
Efforts are under way to locate the accused, he added.
