The first beauty contest for transsexuals celebrates beauty like never before

fashionNew Delhi: A contest like no other beauty held like never before as divas burned the ramp at the first women’s contest in India. Meanwhile, it was a dream come true for Nitasha Biswas of Calcutta, as the country’s first Miss Trans Queen was crowned.

Nitasha was among 16 other women from all over India who walked down the ramp at an event that is a step forward on the road to change of attitude towards the transgender community in India. Loiloi Haorongbam of Manipur was the first runner and Ragasiya of Tami Nadu was the second runner.

The event was judged by a panel of actors, beauty experts and activists, as it was destined to break the stereotype of seeing beauty in binary terms of men and women. The mind behind the event was Reena Rai who faced many of the flak to do it while her sexuality and gender also came under scrutiny according to a major diary.

Contestants came from various backgrounds including students, a lawyer and a former sex worker. While most were in their 20s the oldest contestant was Bunty Mehra in his 50s.

Nitasha Biswas will represent India at the Miss International TransQueen parade in Thailand and wants to work for the education of women passers-by. She believes that society needs to gather and launch for the community.
