Telangana Cancels still studio Srisailam Spillway Capacity

HYDERABAD: In a strategic move, the Telangana government has canceled a “controversial” IR issued to increase the spillway capacity of the Srisailam dam.

The state government had formed a committee to study the feasibility of increasing the capacity of the spillway of Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy Sagar Srisailam Project (NSRSSP) through a GO May 2015. The IR took one foot out between the governments of AP and TS and both approached the Central Water Commission and the Board of Directors of the Krishna River.

On Friday, the government canceled that GO Telangana, ending the dispute between the two States.

According to the AP Reorganization Act, operation and maintenance of the Srisailam dam is entrusted with the government of AP. Despite this, the TS government set up a committee of experts to study the feasibility of increasing the capacity of the dam spillway.

The increased capacity of the spillway facilitate managing unexpected efficacy flooding. Major flooding in 2003 had posed a serious threat to the safety of the dam. At that time, the inflow crossed 27 lakh cusecs while the maximum discharge capacity of the dam was only 13 lakh cusecs.

However, as the GO triggered a controversy, Chief Engineer (Irrigation) Telangana informed the Government that the GO in the study of the spillway capacity was “no longer necessary”. Therefore, the government TS canceled orders issued on May 2, 2015.

Orders will be canceled as Telangana rake probably did not want unnecessary controversy with the government of AP, sources felt.

In order to increase IT literacy in Telangana, the state government today extended an invitation to him to partner with NIIT for digital and computer education in public schools. According to a statement issued by the government, the Minister of Information Technologies of State KT Rama Rao said various IT initiatives undertaken by the government Telangana Rajendra Singh Pawar, chairman of NIIT.
