Sri Lanka does not seal direct qualification in the CCI 2019 Cricket World Cup

srilankaDubai: Sri Lanka failed to seal a direct qualifying spot in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in the ongoing ODI series against India, after failing to win two games.

But with India’s 4-0 victory, Sri Lanka will now have to wait for the Windies to lose at least one of their next matches to win the spot.

If Sri Lanka wins the final game of the series on Sunday, it will reach 88 points on the points table, but that will not be enough to ensure their automatic classification.

The Windies will be able to surpass Sri Lanka in this scenario, as they can also reach 88 points and border Sri Lanka on decimal points if they win their next six matches – one against Ireland on 13 September and all five-game ODI against England 19 to 29 of September.

Should Sri Lanka lose the series 5-0, the Windies can beat it by beating Ireland and winning all five matches against England or the last four games with a 4-1 win.

Teams not placed directly in the 2019 Cricket World Cup will receive another opportunity to a qualifying tournament.

The ICC 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier will feature the four lower sides of the ICC ODI Team Rankings, the first four of the ICC World Cricket Championships and the first two teams of the World Cricket League of ICC. The first two teams of the World Cup Qualification will complete the lineup of 10 teams for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
