PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal get first rounds at the Badminton World Championships

sindhuNew Delhi: Rio de Janeiro Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu and former world number one Saina Nehwal received the first round of the World Championship to begin in Glasgow, Scotland, on August 21.

Sindhu will open his campaign against Kim Hyo Min of Korea or Hadia Hosny of Egypt in the second round and is likely to meet with Chinese Sun Yu for a place in the quarterfinals.

On the other hand, the silver medalist of the 2015 World Championship, Saina, will face the winner of the match between Swiss Sabrina Jaquet and Ukrainian Natalya Voytsekh and is expected to clash with second seeded Korean Sung Ji Hyun for a Place in the quarterfinals.

Fifth-placed Sindhu was ranked fourth in the tournament below North Carolina gold medalist Carolina Marin, while Saina, currently ranked 16, was seeded in 12th place.

Another Indian woman from the battle, national champion Rituparna Das, will face Australian Airi Mikkela in the first round, while Tanvi Lad will close the horns with Chloe Birch from England.

Kidambi Srikanth, the best male pitcher in India, who won two consecutive titles in Indonesia and Australia and reached the final at the Singapore Open, was the eighth in the tournament.

Ajay Jayaram has been seeded 13, B Sai Praneeth has been seeded 15, while the world No. 28 Sameer Verma will begin his campaign as an uneded player.
