Kavitha Slams Centre, Says Only TRS Can Develop Hyderabad

kvHYDERABAD:  Exuding confidence of winning the GHMC elections with a thumping majority, TRS MP from Nizamabad K Kavitha said that the party will get a clear mandate and any post-poll alliance, if need be, will be with MIM to hoist the TRS flag atop the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

Determined to conquer the GHMC fortress, Kavitha stressed that better governance will happen only if TRS wins the GHMC. “This is the first GHMC elections after formation of Telangana. We are in the state government. Development of GHMC will happen if the TRS leads the civic body,” she pointed out.

Confident that the TRS will emerge victorious, Kavitha, however, said that any alliance, if need arises will be with the MIM. “We can’t be friends with the TDP-BJP combine,” she told Express in an interview amidst her tight campaigning schedule.

But, can Hyderabad be developed into a global city by the state government alone? Asked if the scathing attack unleashed by TRS against the BJP would come in the way of Centre extending a helping hand, she asserted that governance and politics are totally different.

However, she has apprehensions over the Centre’s stand towards Telangana. “They have never supported us. In fact, they are not supporting any other state. Be it giving special status to AP, flood relief to Chennai or special package to Jammu and Kashmir, the attitude of the Centre is biased,” she alleged adding that the Centre is not treading the path of cooperative federalism but following political federalism.

The MP said the state government has its own plans to implement its roadmap for Hyderabad. “Now we have a clear cut idea of our means and sources. Apart from our Budget, we have banks and other resources through which we can get loans. Moreso, we are expecting a 15 percent growth for the state,’’ Kavitha said.

Kavitha said that the TRS government is spending 40 percent of the Budget on welfare schemes. “The schemes include two bedroom houses, which is intended to make Hyderabad a slum free city. It adds dignity to life and it is very much in our means,” she said.

Kavitha also feels that the high-pitched campaign by TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and his son Lokesh will not make any impact on the electoral prospects of that party. “Who believes them? What did they do for their state? People lost faith as they doubt as to what TDP can do for Hyderabad,’’ Kavitha said.

She said that the TDP leaders tried to provoke the people’s sentiments. “Their sentiment or even their development plank will not work,” she added.
