Flipkart to begin selling Diwali reconditioned smartphones: report

flipkartFlipkart will begin selling refurbished smartphones from popular brands including Samsung ‘On Series’, Lenovo, Motorola and Sony Xperia from Diwali, the Economic Times reported.

The decision to sell refurbished smartphones follows the high rate of return of the phones and the absence of a price advantage with the introduction of the tax on goods and services, according to industry executives cited in the report.

The firm is also looking to organize the “disorganized” reformed Indian market, and build it as well.

According to the report, Flipkart will offer three categories of refurbished smartphones, priced at 60-75 percent of their original value.

“There are also telephones with minor problems that are replaced. The company plans to make and certify that look and function like new and sold as reconditioned certified by Flipkart phones. There will also be a limited warranty on these products,” said one executive Who spoke with Flipkart to ET.

Refurbished smartphones will be sold through markets online and offline.

Flipkart is not the first online retailer that has decided to sell refurbished phones. Amazon India already sells these devices. However, industrialists suggest that both need to open new channels for sales of refurbished phones, especially offline, if you want to see this market grow.
