HYDERABAD: In a week, Rahul Gandhi will bring his tour of the homes of Telangana farmers, whose arrival as the youngest state in India was facilitated by his mother, Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Six years ago, it was the Union government led by the Congress made an announcement midnight surprise that the region of Telangana would be carved out of Andhra Pradesh as an independent state. This is the journey of Mr. Gandhi debut the new state, which was born in June last year.

Since his return from a sabbatical somewhat mysterious figure eight weeks amid choppy Parliament, Mr. Gandhi has taken the initiative of his party to highlight what he describes as the “anti-peasant” government policies. “Farmers feel abandoned,” Gandhi said yesterday after visiting the houses of farmers who committed suicide in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.
In Telangana, reportedly he has asked congressional leaders to ensure that no undue fuss is made about your visit – not arrival of helicopters in or near villages or celebratory fireworks, for example. The party stated that the arrangements for the 44-year-old vice president should not over-shadow the focus on the rights of farmers, and allow you to interact with them in the field.

Sources say they are likely to spend May 9 and 10 in the drought-stricken districts of Adilabad and Medak. The latter is the constituency of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao Telangana, popularly known as KCR. Medak has reported only about 100 of a total of 700 suicides by farmers in Telangana since it became a state.

KCR had also embarked on a protest hunger before December 9, 2009 announcement by the Congress, which ultimately led to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. His party had then directed Andhra leaders for neglecting the development of Telangana and pushing farmers to take the extreme step of suicide. Voters had overwhelmingly given their vote KCR, hoping that dreams would he spoke about actually rejecting Congress.

Padayatra (walking tour) Mr. Gandhi in Telangana should be nicknamed “Rythu Atmagourava Yatra” (self-respect Yatra farmers).
