As Qualcomm continues its fight against Apple, the chipmaker has been struggling to get the iPhone banned in the United States. Now court documents have appeared mentioning the patented chipsets that reveals a new name and are expected to power the next generation of flagship.
The Snapdragon 845 is called SDM845 in the Qualcomm documents, confirming that the chipmaker is working on it and the company is most likely very close to finalizing the design ahead of the first models to be presented in 2018.
However, as of now, very little is known about the new Snapdragon 845, although it is believed that the next generation of Samsung S series will embrace it, with the Galaxy S9 quite likely to use it when it starts early next year.
So far, no confirmation has been made. Samsung has typically been one of the first adopters of the new Qualcomm star processors, and now it makes sense for the company to go for the Snapdragon 845 as well as for the upcoming S9 lineup.
Leaving the chip aside, the documents also show that Qualcomm has no intention of giving up its fight against Apple, as the company continues to seek a ban on iPhones in the United States.
Apple had sued Qualcomm in January of this year alleging that the company forced it to pay royalties for patents it did not own, while Qualcomm counter-sued and even tried to go after Apple in an attempt to get them to pay license fees for The parts you do for your Apple devices.
But more recently, Apple has received support from several tech giants, including a well-known group whose members, including Google and Microsoft, said they disagreed with the ban on iPhones in the United States.
Intel has aligned itself with Apple in the fight against Qualcomm, but by the looks of things, the dispute will not end very soon.
