Tehran: A bus accident killed 12 people in Iran on Friday, all but one of them schoolgirls traveling to the southern city of Shiraz for a sports and cultural event, state media reported.
The bus capsized around 4:00 am, according to the IRNA news agency, quoted by Said Ejraie, the head of emergency services in Daraa, where the accident occurred.
In addition to the schoolgirls, the other person who died was the driver. Thirty other people were injured, and 13 of them were in serious condition, according to state television.
Although its roads are in good condition, Iran has a poor track record of traffic safety, with accidents caused by reckless drivers who kill thousands every year.
